Goodmorning Ibiza! Let’s go to Cala Vadella. Located in the West far from San Antonio and Ibiza Town Cala Vadella is calm, relaxed and not overrun. The beach is beautifull. Sandy, clear water with all kinds of blue and an impressive sunset.
Let’s start – like always – with a nice Café Con Leche (£2 – €2,5) at beach restaurant Can Jaume. Sit in the shade, enjoy and get prepared for some time on the beach. Today we rent a sunbed with an umbrella (£4-€5 a piece). And prepare ourselves for the best lunch on the island.
We lunch at Restaurant Maria Luisa. It is at the beach and it serves a great paella and wonderful fresh fish dishes (lunch for four: £80 – €100). The best part is that it is slow! Nobody is rushing you, there is only you, a bottle of nice wine (recommendation: Can Riche – wine of the Island), great food and all the time in the world. If you have kids, let them play on the beach. After lunch, take a nap on your beach chair, swim a little in the clear water and watch the beautiful sunset on Cala Vadella.
For a late dinner we go to St. Josep (San Jose). This is a small village near Cala Vadella. Next to the church is a supermarket with a parking next to it. Park there (free). Find Bar Destino (right across the church) and settle down for arguably the best tapas on the island (La Bodega in Ibiza Town near the entrance of the old town is also in the discussion). Reservations are advised, or arrive early or be patient. Bar Destino has a simple concept. You sit down, you order drinks and then someone will visit your table and invite you to come and see the tapas. All tapas will be explained to you in your language of choice and you will simply say (or point): I want that one, that one, that one and yes, that one too! Then you sit down, the tapas will come, you eat, order some more, order their brilliant desserts (do it!), drink some coffee and later you will get La Cuenta (the bill) which is a surprise, but not a bad one (Dinner for four (£64 – € 80).
Bar Destino looks like an authentic, been there for ages kind of bar but – surprise – there is also a Bar Destino that looks the same in Santa Gertrudis. It is a Tapas Chain I guess, but a good one!
